Yahya Jammeh of Gambia

I sympathise with the innocent Gambians that are going to lose their lives, loved ones and properties for no cause of their own. And to those that like talking shit about Africa, I suggest you check your facts well before you start talking rubbish.

Please Jammeh refused to handover not because he is African. He is doing it because he is Jammeh and nothing more. Where he is from, where he worships and how many Years  has he been in power have nothing to do with it. The act of putting a leader’s interest before national interest is not an African thing. Dig your history if you can’t check it,you will see your leaders that are like Jammeh, that put their interest before your national interest.

As far back as 1967 President Daar of Somalia handed over to Abdirashid Ali Shermarke after he was defeated in an election. Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia handed over to Frederick Chiluba in 1991after 21 years in power when he was defeated in an election. Rupiah Banda still of Zambia stepped down after losing a re-election bid to opposition leader Michael Sata in 2011.

In Jammeh’s neighbouring country, Senegal, Abdou Diouf, the second president of his country from 1981 to 2000 left office in a peaceful succession, after losing the 2000 presidential election to Abdoulaye Wade. He, Abdoulaye Wade did same to Macky Sall in 2012.

I know you don’t know of Nicephore Soglo, of Benin who served as prime minister of Benin between 1990 and 1991 and won the 1991 presidential elections and ruled the country until 1996 when he was defeated in the second round of the March 1996 Benin presidential election,  by Mathieu Kerekou despite taking first place in the first round or Andre Kolingba of the Central African Republic who took power from President David Dacko in a bloodless military coup in 1981 and lost power to Ange-Felix Patasse in a democratic election held in 1993?

Please in your haste to talk Africa down don’t forget that Nelson Mandela of South Africa refused to stand election in 1999 after one term in office, that Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki also of South Africa resigned from office in 2008, Not forgetting Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria, who told his supporters that his ambition does not worth their blood in 2015 or President John Mahama of Ghana that will be handing over peacefully this year. Not forgetting Joyce Banda of  Malawi in 2014.

So please and please discuss Jammeh as Jammeh, analyse him as Jammeh and not as Africa. He is but one of the bad leaders in Africa and the world. Every twelve has their Judas.
